Tuesday
The bus trip from Singapore was uneventful. Arrived in KL around 1:30pm and took a short taxi ride to Sungai Wang (literally “Money River” in Malay). The area surrounding the complex is super busy all day long. The amount of ppl there can be liken to the crowd at Orchard Road in Singapore.
My aunty sells in her own words, “clothes that the lians and la-las would wear.” La-las is the Malaysian form of “ah-lian”. Her shop is situated on the top floor (6th) of Sungai Wang and is one of many that strive to pry money away from discerning ah-bengs and ah-lians. There’s no shame in it at all – business is business.
I walked around with my two cousins trying to kill some idle time. I can tell you right now, idle hands cannot hold on to money. In a short span of time I managed to buy two pieces of clothing, a coffee at Dome, 1.5 hours of internet cafe for the 3 of us, food and some drinks. Oh yeah and also some CDs and DVDs. Then I realise I only managed to kill 2 hours. Hah!
After all that activity, we decided to go eat – wasting time is tiring and huunngry work. Had some roti-canai and ordered some takeaway mee-goreng for my aunty. We hung around at the shop before we closed up around 9pm and went back to her place.
That ends my first day in KL – my first time back to my hometown in 4 years. And the reason that I’m blogging at this ungodly hour is because of my snoring brother. He’s also in town for a few days and I’m sharing the room with him. I could do me some sleeping pills.

I would give ANYTHING to go back to Malaysia and go Sungei Wang. I only spent like, a day and a bit in Malaysia, but it was the best damn place I went to
yeah it’s just so bedazzling – some many shops, which ones to start with?
Marcus, my 2 aunts just came back from KL, they said Bukit Bintang also not so bad, got lots of things to buy? You know lah, women, shop shop sampai kiok (mati). Lol. Just thought I let you know.
)
kynne: Bukit Bintang is where Sungai Wang is. In that same area is Lot 10, Starhill and Bukit Bintang Plaza.
I’ve been away but I haven’t been away that long.
Alah, the last time I was there was like err…. 6-8 years ago? I’m terrible in remembering places which is why I do get lost time and again in my own country. Hahahaha!

[...] These photos were taken on the day described in KL Update 1. Arrived in KL around 2:30pm and took a short taxi ride to Sungei Wang. This is what it looks like in front of Sungei Wang most of the day, everyday. [...]
[...] Continued from KL Update 1. Wednesday As mentioned in my previous post, my cousins and I killed time at Berjaya Times Square. Ten freaking floors of shops – who the hell needs that many choices? The place was also not that busy so I don’t know how the poorer-trafficked shops survive. My aunty told me that some shops were offered a 40% (!!!) reduction in their rent. [...]
[...] Continued from KL Update 1, KL Update 2, KL Update 3 – Mambo @ Velvet (Zouk), KL Update 4, KL Update 5, and KL Update 6 – NYE. Sunday The last day that I am here was mostly spent at KLCC – the shopping centre that is part of the twin towers. It being New Year’s Day, it was packed. 7 floors of shops, it was huge. We had dinner at The Penang Kafe. Food was good but because it was a halal place, certain soup stocks did not taste as good as the “real thing” because they were made with chicken bones rather than pork. [...]

[...] Continued from KL Update 1, KL Update 2, and KL Update 3 – Mambo @ Velvet (Zouk). Thursday The night before (Wed) was spent at Zouk. It was fun. Every fun night clubbing sounds the same anyway so I can’t really make it anymore descriptive than I already have countless times on this blog. [...]
