Tuesday
The bus trip from Singapore was uneventful. Arrived in KL around 1:30pm and took a short taxi ride to Sungai Wang (literally “Money River” in Malay). The area surrounding the complex is super busy all day long. The amount of ppl there can be liken to the crowd at Orchard Road in Singapore.

My aunty sells in her own words, “clothes that the lians and la-las would wear.” La-las is the Malaysian form of “ah-lian”. Her shop is situated on the top floor (6th) of Sungai Wang and is one of many that strive to pry money away from discerning ah-bengs and ah-lians. There’s no shame in it at all – business is business. ;)

I walked around with my two cousins trying to kill some idle time. I can tell you right now, idle hands cannot hold on to money. In a short span of time I managed to buy two pieces of clothing, a coffee at Dome, 1.5 hours of internet cafe for the 3 of us, food and some drinks. Oh yeah and also some CDs and DVDs. Then I realise I only managed to kill 2 hours. Hah!

After all that activity, we decided to go eat – wasting time is tiring and huunngry work. Had some roti-canai and ordered some takeaway mee-goreng for my aunty. We hung around at the shop before we closed up around 9pm and went back to her place.

That ends my first day in KL – my first time back to my hometown in 4 years. And the reason that I’m blogging at this ungodly hour is because of my snoring brother. He’s also in town for a few days and I’m sharing the room with him. I could do me some sleeping pills.

Monday
Met up with BM and her “good fren” for dimsum at Carlton Hotel. (Jeremy is right – BM’s abbreviation of “gf” really does conjures up some tantalising images. Wahahah.)

Great conversation over food – one of the greatest pleasures in life. As I’ve mentioned previously I believe that I have found a life long friend in BM. It really felt like we’ve known each other for ages – even longer than the time since I started reading her blog and her mine, and our subsequent online chats. V. surreal. I told her the first day we met up that it was like “we know each other but not”. And now we do. :)

Am also glad for her and “good fren” – they are such a compatible couple. Even their sense of humour and views of things are a match. I like him and he makes me laugh.

We continued our great conversing at this tapas bar (I forgot the name too – maybe it was just “Tapas Place”?) over a few beers. You can see BM’s pics in the link below in the last paragraph.

After we’ve parted, I refreshed and then headed out again for dinner with some friends. Had dinner at an Indonesian place at Clarke Quay (I was just there that afternoon). Mmmm. Yummo. The weather cooled down nicely and the beers that went with the meal was very soothing.

And then after dinner, we walked next door to Brewerkz. We ordered two “towers” of beer – you have to see the pics to believe it. Each holds 8 pints of beer so that was 16 pints for the 5 of us. Damn I was so drunk. And I had to wake up the next morn at 6am to catch my bus to KL. Woohoo. I had an awesome time.

In fact my whole time at Singapore was awesome. I truly believe that it is the people that really makes a place enjoyable and worth visting over and over again. Every major city in the world has the same facilities – casinos, nightclubs, bars, cafes and restaurants. So what makes a place distinctive is definitely its people.

BM touched on this during our conversation and she has blogged about it too. To the ppl that I’ve met and who’ve taken the time out to show me a good time – I thank you all! I’ve now got more of a reason to visit Singapore and it will not take another 10 years. ;)

Sunday
Woke up late from the night before at BM’s gathering. Wow what a great night. It was really cool that our conversation flowed on from our virtual ones seamlessly. I believe that I have made a life long friend. The wonders of blogging. Speaking of which, a girl said that BM was “gross” the night at Loof. Mm-kay. ;)

Caught up with a friend from Perth who now works in Singapore. We had a few beers and some spicy chicken wings at Breko Cafe across from Bugis Junction. I mentioned something about “low-maintenance friends” previously and I really feel blessed that I have these ppl in my life. Not that I’m lazy but I’m always glad that we can pick up a conversation with friends like these like we were never apart.

At night I had dinner with a cousin, his parents visiting from Penang and a friend of his. We had Shanghainese Ramen at this restaurant near Breko just a few shops down. The wontons were those that when you bite into them, the soup inside just oozes out. Tre bien. And the ramen was not bad too.

After that we headed off to Suntec City to look (or was it gawk?) at the world’s biggest water feature. I went, I saw and I wondered, “Har? Is that all?” It doesn’t “dance” and there wasn’t any fancy lights or whatever. I looked around and there were all these tourists and possibly locals sitting down looking at it and taking pictures. Hehe. Ppl really amuses me sometime.

I told her I went to the two biggest clubs in Singapore and her immediate SMS back to me was:

Good on u. Any luck? You know what I mean.

Contined from Singapore Update 1.

Saturday
My cousin and her husband took me to a Nyonya restaurant out in Katong. It was something “Peranakan Inn” something. I forgot. Anyway, food like my mom cooks. Nice and I had a filling.

After lunch we walked around Orchard Road. The crowd was just immense – masses of ppl everywhere. Cousin went to Far East Plaza to get a second hand phone and amidst all that the rain poured down like there’s no tomorrow. So then we decided to eat again (!). This was at 3:30pm and lunch was only 3 hours ago. I had some bee-hun-kuay and some kopi-o. Damn I felt so bloated.

Night came and I met up with Blinkymummy. She is exactly like how she comes across in her blog. All bubbly and cheery. She couldn’t stop giggling when she first saw me. She took me to MOS Burgers and her “good friend” came along.

He really is a nice guy and I was telling him how the cops in Perth patrol in groups of 3 or 6 in the nightspots. He said that if the police in Singapore did that, the ppl would feel oppressed. Hahah! And my favourite of all of Blinkymummy’s phrases was “Like that win already loh!”

After dinner we went to Loof. It was a very funky roof top bar. Lucky it didn’t rain. Met up with her friends, some of them being bloggers (BM and Verce has the full list).

From Loof we decided to go to MoS. The queue was once again massive and no special connections would work tonight as it was near capacity it would seem. So from there we went to the world famous Zouk – which worked out well for me since I’ve never been there. It was v.cool – had quite a bit to drink. We did two rounds of 3 apple-shooters each. Dunno what it was made of but it went down real easy.

Chatted with this girl called “Venus” from Medan. Pretty, but nothing much came out of it. If I was staying in Singapore I would have asked for her number. *sigh*

But the night was fantastic. Thanks BM for organising it! For more pics and details of the night, check out BM’s post and Verce’s post.

Woohoo! Merry Xmas!

First things first, I’ve been dissapointed by one or two friends whom, despite me giving them ample advance notice of my coming to Singapore, didn’t take the time out to meet or had asked me to change my schedule for them at the last minute. With the number of ppl that I have to see, my schedule had all been planned out precisely so it was impossible to change it for anyone. Oh well. I’ve believe I’ve already met the worthy ppl anyway. ;)

Ok so this is day 3 in Singapore.

Friday
Walked around with Swee. She helped me got a bus ticket to KL and I was her fashion-opinion-giver throughout the day. “No really, you look good in that.” Liar. Hahhaha!

Then we got some beers at Breko Cafe just outside Bugis Junction and her cousin came along from her work. Pretty – too bad got boyfriend already.

Night time came and I met up with June and Eve (my ex-housemates) for dinner. June scored us a table at this place called New Asia atop the Swiss Hotel. It was so posh that I counted 3 (!) checkpoints to go up there. 1 at a ground floor lounge, another on the 65th floor on the stairs to the restaurant itself. Then another to the “members area”. Even got a stamp. Fwah. What kinda uppity restaurant was this!?

But the view was fantastic and the food wasn’t shabby either. After dinner, Eve left because she was tired and June and I headed to Ministry of Sound, Singapore. The queue was f*cking ridiculous – it snaked around the building 3 times. So essentially it was 3 blocks long!

However, June knew one of the marketing ppl working for MoS and got us in without queing. Good to know friends in high places. :)

Inside it was split into one main room and 3 smaller rooms. Main room played house/trance, while the other rooms played R&B, retro and chillout. Needless to say it was packed. The clubhead that I am had a great time. Woohoo!

Blogging & Blogosphere and PersonalFriday, 23 December 2005 01:49 pm

Am actually posting this in a Pacific Internet cafe in a shopping centre. Blogging would be sporadic as mentioned – I’m only here now because I got some spare time to kill before meeting up with a friend. ;)

While on my travels, I’m keeping a log so that I got plenty of material to blog about later. Might do what Blinkymummy did with her London travels – day 1, day 2, day 3 etc.

Already got some photos, hope my memory card holds up. So far last night have went to Waraku (Japanese restaurant downstairs the Starhub building) for dinner and Ice Cold Beer for drinks after. Ice Cold Beer is really cool – it’s one of those old-school colonial nyonya shophouses refurbished into this funky little bar. Cannot upload photos for now so you just have to wait for it. Those of who have seen these nyonya houses in Penang and Melaka would know what I mean.

Ok until next time whenever, merry Xmas and a Happy New Year to all again! :)
