csi tv show crime scene investigation

The office had been infiltrated by mice recently. How did we find out? They chewed through a charity box of snacks and sweets – those boxes where the proceeds are collected by a charity agency. And we’ve also noticed droppings on our desks.

This morning, I was greeted by a sweet and pungent smell. At first I thought it was a colleague’s perfume so I asked her. She was insulted (heheh) and she said that’s it not her. I then looked up at the air-vent directly above my desk and the first thought that came to me was,

Oh shit. Something died up there.

Is this the smell of decomp? Not that I know what decomp would smell like but I know it’s meant to be pungent and sweet. Where did I learn this? CSI of course! (see Wikipedia for a more authorative description of decomposition)

I then looked around and under my desk expecting to see a dead mouse or a piece of rotten something. But nope. Nothing. Meanwhile, you can only smell it if you come near my desk so none of my colleagues are affected.

And I’ve now got a headache.

snoop staffordshire terrier dog

My cousin Yvonne and I were talking about Snoop.

Yvonne: How old is Snoop?
Me: 5 years old.
Yvonne: 5!? He still acts like a puppy.
Me: Yeah he does.
Yvonne: What’s that in human years?
Me: 35. Heh.

So basically, Snoop is a bit like his owner. ;)

From Penny Arcade’s daily comic strip, the scene – Lois Lane and Superman are in a restaurant:

Superman: Tell me about this Pan-Roasted Garlic Chicken.
Waiter: Well, it’s a beautiful cut …
Superman: Yeah-huh. Does it have any kryptonite?
Waiter: Well, there’s a light kryptonite glaze.
Superman to Lois: See? What did I tell you about this place?

Heh. See the entire strip.

Lately, my gag reflex when brushing my teeth has gotten worse. I usually get a mild reaction but lately, it’s so bad that I’d get tears in my eyes. Which works out well since my eyes feel very dry in the morning but I digress.

I once read that modern communication technology only serves to isolate us even more but to that I say, “Maybe not.”

I went and googled “gag reflex brushing teeth” and what do I find? That the problem is quite common and I’m not alone.

From DentalFearCentral.org (what a cool site name!):

Usually, the gag reflex is stronger when brushing back teeth (especially the inside and biting surfaces). Gagging may be less pronounced when you keep your lips closed. Some people find it easiest to start off with brushing the outer surfaces of the lower teeth. Start off with whatever area you find easiest, move slowly, and add other areas on a day-by-day basis until you manage to cover your whole mouth. This may take several weeks.

Or it could be the Colgate 360° toothbrush which I’m using that has a tongue brusher on the back of the head. And it’s a big head. That could be causing me to gag. Heyyyyy, wait a minute … that was sick. Get that filthy image out of your head! :P

On the same page, there’s also advice for if you are not motivated enough to brush your teeth (you filthy animals!):

Visualise how you want your teeth to look like, how they will feel when they are lovely and clean, how they will sound when you can run your finger over your teeth and hear that lovely clean squeak. Imagine running your tongue around them all smooth and clean, better still, imagine someone you fancy running their tongue around your lovely clean teeth!

Now that’s good medical advice!

Yeah quote me on that.

While XX has riled up ppl once again (see Minishorts and Rojaks) with her childish and shallow attempt at writing about a serious topic, I went and checked out what the others on STOMP had to say about: “Singapore – a fine city without social graces.”

Dawn Yang

To which, Dawn said:

Courtesy starts with the individual, with you right here right now. Instead of focusing on others’ ineptness at graciousness, we should take it upon ourselves to start doing simple acts of kindness whenever we can. It’s very IMPORTANT too that parents should set an example for their kids so they grow up learning good manners. Are you spoiling them too much? Remind them to say thank you everytime!

Meanwhile, XX chose the opportunity to insult Malaysians. She also suggested the lack of sex as being the reason for ppl being rude. Wow. She nailed that right on the head! Sexual frustration can make one a little TOUCHY! Shit, where did that come from? Heh.

As of now, I don’t think she needs further scrutiny and ridiculing. I officially declare her beyond hope and you shall not see any more posts about her on my blog. Slagging her and her fans is no longer satisfying because it’s just too easy.

From now on, it’s gonna be Dawn Yang all the way. Woohoo!

Simon and I headed to The Deen last night to watch the Australia vs. Italy FIFA 2006 game. The game was projected onto their big screen in the main room, where we usually hang out on Saturday nights.

The crowd was fantastic and even though we lost, it was a great night out. I shall let the photos and video do the story-telling. :)

Socceroos at the end of their losing game against Italy, FIFA World Cup 2006

Italy 1 Australia 0

Argh! We fucking lost! And to a penalty shot from a dubious foul no less! It was such a close game all the way till the end as well – I was hoping for a penalty shoot out at least. Shit!

Still, the crowd and atmosphere at The Deen was fantastic. Though there were some aggro at the end when a bunch from the crowd started throwing their empty bottles at the screen. And when we got out of the place, the cops were everywhere. They must have sensed trouble too – probably listened to the score on the radio.

Pics and vid when I’ve processed them later today.
