Thanks everyone for the comments. Just goes to show that this is a very debatable subject. :)

Hi!

Thanks for citing my poem "Why You Lose Me II."

I pretty much said in it what I have to say on the subject, except to add that, in my experience, wealthy men can be some of the worst sons of bitches on the planet; you don't get rich by being Mr. Nice Guy.

And I, for one, like nice guys--handsome is as handsome does.

Henry Kissinger (a legendarily ugly man) once claimed power was the ultimate aphrodisiac (not money) and he should know. Money attracts gold diggers because of the percieved power associated with it.
So theoretically it is possible to gain a hot chick by gaining power. doesn't mean you have to be the president of the USA. you can whangle yourself into a small seat of localised power, particularly where there is a high concentration of hot chicks.
would make a good experiment like try becoming the president of a book club, dance society, wine appreciation class etc.

Gold diggers?? Yah loh, that's the first tot that comes to mind. Similarly for those couples with one half much older than the other, you would think, the older person must be very rich. Otherwise, why would the younger one fall for someone so much older than him/her??

Actually, on the outside, you may say "no, you dun go for aesthetics. no, you are not so superficial. etc." but deep inside, do you still think the same?

Yes, I do agree that many years down the road, looks will change. Everyone will grow old some point in time and when that happens, skin sags, age spots appear, movements slows, etc. But at this current moment when one is still young, what are your criterias?

First look counts for a first meeting between two parties, you would be attracted to the physical appearance of a person before attempting to get to know him/her better. Thereafter, you may decide whether you would want to continue with a relationship (if there is one) or not.

But for people who are already friends, it's a different story. They are friends first. They never tot of becoming an item. But as time goes by, they get to know one another better, they develop feelings and thus, eventually they are together.

It all actually depends on how, where, when you met, what were the cicumstances that surrounded your meeting and why.

And also the amount of persistance shown in the courting process lah hor. It could either bring happiness or irritation in the other party. hehehe!!

Yeah. Ronnie made an extremely good point. I am a centimeter shorter than him and I find no significant advantage except for accidentally plunging my face into spider webs almost everytime I walk between tree branches or under them. Disgusting indeed.

Herman: or perhaps this ... "maybe he's really good in bed???" Hahahha!

sourrain: the rich guy who is short and ugly doesn't really win because all that money is what attracts this kind of women and not himself. But having said that, the guy gets what he wants, and so does the golddigger. ;)

Otto: heh. work eh? You just made it sound like prostitution which I guess it is - the woman is prostituting her principles and natural physical reaction to a not-so-handsome man.

fatmermaid: yes not all girls are like that but it is common, I've seen *many* such couples throughout uni and working life.

Leonard: wallet doing the talking! Shite, mine is quite silent then. Hahahah!

Ronnie & Ian: woah dudes! you both make good points. I got nothing to add except this: we may not be animals, but deep down our mating instincts are still primal. It's all biological. ;)

JadedLotus: yeah I've seen them all! Why? :P

Why You Lose Me II

You think I'm hot
You say so.
I think you're hot
I say so.
But then you back away.
I never have any luck with women you say.
But I like you, I say.
You can't trust women, you say.
You can trust me, I say.
They will break your heart, you say.
I never will, I say.
My last girlfriend cheated on me, you say.
I'm not your last girlfriend, I say.
I'm short and bald and ugly, you say.
I think you are adorable, I say.
I'm out of shape, you say.
Let's work out together, I say.
I don't know how to talk to girls, you say.
I'm talking to you, I say.
Girls go for the guys with money, you say.
I don't care if you have money, I say.
Nobody will ever want to love me, you say.
I think I could love you, I say.
Women are all such self-centered bitches, you say.
Well, I've got to go, I say.
Can I have your number, you ask.
I keep on walking.

Ian: i'v heard the peacock theory countless times already. the alternate perspective is that the colourful big tail is just a demonstration of higher value. b/c when the peacock spreads out its tail, it is at it's most vulnerable & clumsiest. Although it's inconvenient to move around with the big wide open tail, it is sending a signal that it is not afraid of it's vulnerability..& that even at its most vulnerable moment, it doesn't affect the peacock's ability to survive. That is the animal's mark of confidence, which attracts the peahens.

Hence, being short & ugly is not a limitation if he believes in his abilities & unquestioned confidence. Just that, he can't trigger instant attraction..a woman has to grow to like him over a period of time (by discovering more about him)

i stand at 1.82m tall & i don't see it as an advantage over anyone else. tall/short/handsome/ugly don't matter much. Every coin has two sides, it's just how you play the tossing game plus a bit of luck..

if you still buy the fact that peacocking is about aesthetics & colourful attraction, then i'd say that women has already taken over men in this technique since a long time in history through artificial means such as cosmetics, fragrances, clothes, etc..

like the moth that's attracted to the beauty of the lightbulb & end up being fried..the more you chase after beauty, the more it eludes you..because when you put women on the Goddess pedestals & seek their validation & approval of yourself, you inevitably fall trap into the "Nice Guy Syndrome".

No matter what sizes & shapes we come in, we should be proud of ourselves simply by virtue of our male gender, masculine qualities & values. Anything inadequate, we should constantly self-improve & live life the way it befits us & the way a man authentically should be. When you are happy as you are & can be, you won't have to be too bothered about all these attraction dynamics..& who knows, a good discerning woman will eventually want to live in you & follow the reality which you made it your own.
