Good looking people get away with a lot. The flash of a smile, the twinkling of the eyes, a fluttering of eyelashes, a breathy or husky tone of voice. All techniques employed so effectively by the pretty and handsome.

But what about ugly people? We know that men can compensate for their lack of good looks with the amount of money that they have. What about women then? How do you forgive mean and spiteful behaviour from a less than ordinary woman, who is even more ugly because she is behaving badly? What qualities must such a woman have to make you overlook the ugliness?

I remember a night out a while back, with some friends and a girlfriend of one of those friends. From the first time I met her before that night, I never had a good impression of her. After tolerating her snide remarks, and her putting down our friend in front of us almost constantly that night, I was about to blow up at her when I was pulled aside by one of the other friends.

Me: Seriously, what the fuck does he see in her?
Him: Dunno man.
Me: I mean look at him, he’s just sitting there eating it all up, not saying anything.
Him: I know right, she’s not even pretty.
Me: Yeah man! I mean if she was pretty, hey you know … we’d cut her some slack and we’d totally understand why he’s just sitting there like he was her bitch.
Him: Heh. Yeah.
Me: Do you think the sex is really good? You know, like really really good? I mean that’s the only reason I can think of.
Him: Yeah yeah. Maybe she has a golden pussy.
