The atmosphere is electric.
You can feel the bass line thumping in your chest.
The air is hazy from the disco smoke.
And then you see her.
Hair shimmering in the strobe lights.
Body swaying to the music as she walks towards you.
You smile in anticipation, waiting for the moment your paths cross.
And then it hits you like an invisible wall.
The unmistakable pungentness of underarm odour.
You cry out inside, “Noooo! How can a woman so hot smell so bad?”
“Doesn’t she know the magic that is antiperspirant-deodorants?”
“How can she leave out that one crucial step in prettying herself for a night out?”
“She puts on makeup, styles her hair, chooses a dress, sprays on perfume, and she forgets this???”
Well apparently she did. And perhaps she’s having her period too.

Speaking of scents, it’s now been two weeks since all the pubs and clubs in Western Australia have gone smoke-free. It’s great. Not so great for smokers who have to go outside in the cold and rain to smoke, and in some places having to line up to come back in again. But great for the rest of us who don’t end up with stinky hair and clothes, and dry irritated eyes.

Ugh we went to the casino last night and there was B.O. a-plenty there.
Peeeeeeeeyeeewwww!
I don’t use anti perspirant deodorants because of how they work and what they do to your body. I mean it’s not like people want you to stop your body from functioning properly and NOT sweat. They just want you not to stink of b.o. from anywhere in your body. Instead I spritz on some perfume and always shower before going out anywhere.
Funny how most of our pheromones seep out from out pores along with our sweat. What will happen when we get rid of our chemical awareness of another person?
yes, smell is definitely an aphrodisiac. and of course, by the same token, can be a turn-off. it’s amazing the power of smell. an-average looking guy can seem SO much hotter if he is wearing nice cologne (hint hint).
also, some people DO put on anti-persperiant deoderant before they head out, but because of the smoky, sweaty club environment where there is a lot of dancing and moving around, it has worn off by the end of the night. that’s why i carry a mini-deoderant with me in my handbag whenever I head out clubbing! works a treat!
also, if you are on pills, you sweat more as well. don’t know if you have noticed but yeah, ecstacy makes you sweat more and combined with the dancing….yeah…so maybe the girl was on a pill…
michellesarah: wahaha, imagine all that being recycled over and over again in the casino. I swear sometimes you can almost see it wafting in the air – it’s that bad.
jktdo: fair enough about the pheromones but we are also the only mammals to wear clothes which weakens the pheromone effect. And clothes trap sweat which leads to odour. Frankly, I’d rather a woman to not smell, pheromones or not. Some ppl are lucky to not sweat as much, but the rest of us need a little more help.
girlstar7: Smell *is* a big deal to me and really affects my impression of a girl. And I do know about the effects of E. Except this girl wasn’t tripping on it. She didn’t look it anyway. Good idea with carrying a backup deodorant. Can’t hurt!
heh heh. nothing turns off more than bad BO. definitely a no no. maybe more girls should carry scents around on them. maybe men too. a smelly dude is a scary dude, you don’t want to be stuck in an enclosed space with aformentioned male.
as for the non-smoking rule, i think it’s a fantastic idea! really hate the post-clubbing smokey hair, and since i’m cutting down of smoking (really!), it’d be yet another reason not to light up. too bad no such places here yet.
In my first ever lecture in university, I happened to sit next to a pretty beautiful girl. I thought luck was on my side until her B.O. sieged my nostrils. I couldn’t move away because other seats were occupied. And the lecture went on for two hours…
I wonder why Victoria hasn’t implemented that regulation yet? I’d loved to go clubbing in a smoke free atmosphere…
haha I’ve got a similar experience to ian. umm but I better shut up before I incriminate myself.
Irene: smelly men I can understand but it’s the more surprising when it’s a woman. I guess there’s a common stereotype of women having a greater sense of personal hygiene than us men.
Yeah the no-smoking rule has been great for us here.
ian: woohoo. 2 hours as well. That must have shattered your fantasy almost instantaneously too.
Re: the no-smoking, you don’t notice it at first but at the end of the night you’d realise the BIG difference.
Rob: damn dude, if you are talking about our uni days then I know who you are inferring. And we had two for the price of one too! Woohoo!
amazing how smells can evoke memories, even after a decade
if you can still smell it in a club (with the smoke), wowee.
Maybe it’s because she danced too much.
Maybe some irritating man rubbed against her, and he was sweating like a pig (this happened to me – right after I bathed. I don’t like to bathe, so when I do I like to stay clean as long as possible… once on the bus, this army boy boards and squeezes past me on the bus. =_=)
This article reminds me of a chinese serial in my shore (Singapore).
Hot babe Jeanette Aw having BO!!! OMG.
So I can understand where u coming from.
Anti-perspirator with a tagline “Make a Hot Smelly Babe Smells Good again!!!”.
rationalneurotic: erm all pubs/clubs here are now smoke-free. And it wasn’t becoz of some guy rubbing up against her either. I can pinpoint her as the source.
Lupin: heh good one. there’s a cool ad by Lynx here in Oz now showing a guy with armpits that sprays out fluid. Hahah. If I can find it on YouTube, I’ll post it up here.
An: you *sprayed* it at the person? Wahahah. Awesome.
Body Spray is good to carry around too. U can use it after being in a smoking environment.
The best is sitting in a bus behind a person with BO… spray spray… and it doesn’t smell that bad anymore. I did that once.. LOL!!
[...] Speaking of scents, body odours and anti-perspirants and deodorants (heh), this is the latest Lynx ad now showing on Australian TV. Funny stuff. [...]
aaaahhh. when will they start doing that here in victoria?! i’m envious. can u imagine if they tried to do that in KL? -_- yes… i’m a dreamer.
lisha: in KL? that will never happen. And besides, the government wouldn’t wean itself off cigarette taxes – it’s too lucrative.
Mind you the taxes are also needed because of smoking-related illnesses.
