At Cluster Gamers in PJ SS2, playing multiplayer Call of Duty 2

Yes, I came back all the way from Australia to go play PC LAN games.

Yesterday – Day 1. I said I wanted to do nothing and I did almost nothing. And this entry is gonna be like a typical diary entry: I ate this, I saw this, and I did this. Sorry. Hohoho.

Lazed around the house till 4:30pm before we decided to head out. Then my aunty called and said to wait at home because we are now going out for dinner at 6pm. No point to leave the house then. Woops.

Dinner was at her in-laws’ place – simple home-cooked meals cooked by the maid. Heh. For a Muslim Indonesian, she makes really authentic Chinese dishes. No pork of course. Caught up with my aunty’s younger sister-in-law for a bit. She used to study in Perth and our families are quite intertwined. She treats me like an older cousin because she’s younger than me. Reucas my cousin is her nephew but she follows the name-rank he uses for me and calls me “Marcus kor-kor” which means “older brother”.

After dinner, Phil messaged me and said, “Up for some midnight gaming?” I immediately thought lascivious thoughts and replied, “Heh heh. ‘Gaming’ eh?” He replied, “Yes, gaming. As in PC.” Rats.

He came and picked me up around 11pm and drove us all the way back to where he lives: Petaling Jaya SS2 which was about 25 minutes away. This is also the area where I used to live. It’s an area which has changed a lot though I can still pick up some of the older landmarks.

Got introduced to his five friends there and it was on! 3-on-3 multi-player deathmatch on “Call of Duty 2″. Yes, how geeky can we get. But man it was awesome. Lotsa swearing, and lotsa hysterical laughter from killing our virtual selves.

The two hours flew by and it was time to leave. The cost: RM$8.50 each. Phil said it well, “Not bad for two hours of fun.” You definitely can’t get the same kinda value from clubbing and drinking. Also women. ;)

And that was day 1.

The view outside my aunty's apartment

The view outside my aunty’s apartment block

Arrived last night into KL without incident. The only complain? There were many nice looking girls traveling alone who didn’t sit next to me! Damn it! And this on a full flight. What are the odds?!

I woke up to my first morning here and I suddenly thought, “Maybe I’ll do nothing today.” Hahaha! I’m still in that kinda mood actually. I’ve just had breakfast(!) and have watched a little bit of Astro (cable/satellite TV) and I’m feeling lethargic. Waste of a good holiday? No – I’m physically in a different place, and so is my state of mind. That IS already a holiday.

Once I get my mind into gear I will fire off the requisite messages to friends and wait for my holiday schedule to come alive. Two weeks! Woohoo!

About photos – I’ve already taken a lot the last time round, so I’m quite conscious about rehashing the same kind of shots. However I’m optimistic about encountering different scenarios this trip.

And btw I’m currently mooching off some unfortunate person’s WiFi. That’s the bonus of being in an apartment block – you are bound to find an unsecured network or two. My cousins’ only got the one Ethernet connection from their ADSL modem. This way I don’t have to disrupt them like last year.

Let this be a lesson to you out there. Secure your networks! At the very least, set a password for it.

Ok, SMSing awaits me. Tonight clubbing? Mmm.

Just a little bit more than a month since my last holiday to Singapore, I’m off to Kuala Lumpur this afternoon for 2 weeks. Fun, food and girls? I should be so lucky.

Blogging may be sporadic. Then again I said that last year and I ended up blogging almost everyday. Heh. In the mean time, if you haven’t subscribed to my feed yet now is a good time to do so. And if you use Bloglines and download their desktop notifier, you’d know whenever any of your favourite blogs (ahem) have updated without having to keep refreshing them. Unless you have OCD and you like that kinda thing. In that case I heart you for stalking me.

See you in KL. :)

I wrote about growing up in 80s Malaysia previously but there were no images to go with it. Well, I manage to dig up some old scans that I did for my primary school friends from KL. Behold! The Mooiness and friends circa 1986. Remember to wash your eyes on the way out. :D

Fun was having a school picnic by the lake with a whole bunch of your friends, having KFC and playing Nintendo Game-n-Watches. And I forgot that we did the V-sign even way back then.

Check out the chicks around me. I seriously peaked way too early man. Wtf.

This was taken at my house in Malaysia for my 12th birthday party. Phil may force me to get drunk for this when I see him. It’s all good!

Eat Drink Man WomanTuesday, 19 December 2006 10:00 pm

A platonic female friend and I had a little tiff this morning which has since blown over. But you tell me what you think.

First, a little background: she works two jobs and she also have a boyfriend. Since I have more free time than she does, she’d be the one who would always call me to catch up.

This morning she was angry that we couldn’t meet up before I fly to KL – our free times didn’t sync up for the past week or two. And there were a few misses too. She postponed on me last week, and I had forgotten to call to let her know that I was actually flying off earlier than thought.

So anyway, I got yelled at. I tried to calm the conversation down by saying, “Hey I’m only going for 2 weeks. I’ll see you when I get back.”

And she replied, “But you don’t understand. I bought you a surprise Christmas gift. If it’s important to you, then you would make the time for it.” Woah, guilt trip! Ignoring the fact that I don’t celebrate Christmas (heathen!) so it really IS not important to me, I honestly had assume that this was just a casual catch-up and it can wait. Now if she had said from the beginning that she had a gift for me, I would have probably preempted my schedule. But it is now too close to my flight because I have other things to do before then.

She said, “I am making the time so why can’t you?” Somehow she had forgotten that she postponed on me last week too. Why must I be free when she is free? I’m not the one getting the poontang so I don’t have to be available whenever she wants me to, right?

My point to this meandering story is this: I know I’m not meant to understand women but it doesn’t mean that I have to like it. And that is possibly the biggest reason why I’m still single because I can’t give in to arguments which I know doesn’t make sense.

And I’m willing to put up with a lot of pent up frustration because of that, so why does that tell you about me? Doomed to be single? Oh noes! ;)

On a warm and balmy summer evening, the Ooi family decided to head out for some of that Fremantle Doctor and have fish and chips by the sea at Cicerello’s.

cicerellos-landing

At Cicerello’s you can have all kinds of seafood dishes including raw oysters and chilli mussels but most people, tourists and locals alike go there for the fish and chips.

Check out that great sunset. It was a really pleasant night out.

Remember not to feel the seagulls …

Or they will shit on you.

It was a shame that we didn’t bring Snoop out with us because we weren’t quite sure we could bring him – until we saw a few families brought their pets along. Next time then. Simple pleasures like this have to be shared to be truly enjoyable, even with the family pet. :)

I mentioned many times before that The Cott has a predominantly white, although friendly crowd. Being a minority, I don’t feel self-conscious at all about frequenting the place. It comes from being self-confident about my race and about who I am.

And most of all, it comes from feeling as Aussie-fied as I can be, minus fishing, surfing, the cricket and the football. Speaking of which, why is it that a minority has to prove how Aussie they are by indulging in the most Aussie of activities and yet an Anglo person can get by without needing to like any of those things? But I digress.

Back to The Cott – I was there minding my own business when some white guy ruffled up my hair as I walked past. I turned and looked, thinking that I may have met him but had forgotten who he is I thought I’d shake his hand just in case. As he was shaking my hand back with one of those try-hard hip-hop handshakes, he said to me:

Hahah! My grandfather killed your grandfather!

I could have said that “I’m not Japanese, mate” but I didn’t. I just continued walking. What do modern Japanese have to do with what their forefathers did anyway? I can understand this kind of sentiment from a World War 2 veteran. But this young guy?

This reminds me of another story. My cousin Yvonne who is a dentist once had a white patient said to the receptionist at her work (also white), “Don’t you have any Australian dentists here?” To which the receptionist said, “She IS Australian”. Begrudgingly he let my cousin treat him and lucky for him, my cousin is super nice. What kind of fool would fuck with the person who can fuck with their teeth?

In conclusion, all racists are idiots. I’d laugh if I didn’t pity them so much.
