Not too old to DJ! Not too old to party!
At the Armin van Buuren gig Friday, some punk asked Simon in a super-sarcastic way, “How old are you?!” Simon’s the same age as me (b. 1974, year of the tiger) and I’d like to state that if some of our favourite DJs are around our age, and are still spinning then we are not too old to party.
- Armin van Buuren – b. 1976
- Ferry Corsten – b. 1973
- Tiësto – b. 1969
- Eddie Halliwell – b. 1980
(Birth years gathered from their official sites and Wikipedia)
Incidentally, everyone on that list except for Eddie Halliwell is from the Netherlands. It must be something special in the water over there. And except for Tiësto – he last came to Australia in 2004 to Sydney/Melbourne, I’ve seen them all live here in Perth.
Spin spin sugar!

Clockwise from top left: Ferry Corsten, Eddie Halliwell, Armin van Buuren, Tiësto

Oooo spin spin sugar is one of my favourite songs….yuuuuummmm!
Like I always say..it is not the age,it is the love of the music. Rave on.
(but i do recoil at the sight of really old uncles in raves in ahpek patterned polos and high waisted work pants. sorry)
pps: you are the only person born in the tiger year that I get along with.you know you know!!??
hee hee – glad that you got that Sneaker Pimps reference. Regarding the old ah-peks, for one I would never be wearing any of that. Heheh. And if I start balding, I’d shave it all off instead of leaving a bald patch or worse – comb over. Wahaha!
pps: really?!? I’m so honoured!
There’s nothing wrong with DJ’s over 30! Or clubbers over 30 either for that matter.
I’m a dragon. Born in the same year as Armin.
Jo: yeah – until our bodies give up on us, I’m there.
People forget how to party.. I’m only 24 and I feel old
doof what?
LTJ Bukem b. 1967
Goldie b. 1965
they’re my top two, and they’re older than those you listed!
i’m convinced there’s benefits to growing older.
clara: I don’t think you’d forget, but I do know ppl go through phases. So perhaps, you’ve passed it?
juji: thanks for the additions! Benefits to growing older – for one, I seem to be enjoying clubbing now more than ever.
I’ve seen Tiesto, a few years ago (I think it was 2004 actually), at a rave. And yeah, usually the top DJs are in their 30s, many of those guys have been around since the late 80s/early 90s.
definitely never too old to party, I say! Keep partying on and one day we’ll have to go dance it up together!
girlstar7: that’s a definite yes!
Ptttth, even that Tiesto is a young whipper snapper!
^ Dabido, cool down
We won’t give up! Well, until our bodies DO give up on us
Tiesto has really made a name for himself in the recent years. I even saw his name in a United Nations website somewhere – he’s like an ambassador of goodwill or something.
So yeah, that alone should prompt us and remind us that noooo we’re not too old to parrrttteeeyyy

[...] of course, I’m still clubbing. If my favourite DJs are not too old to spin, then I’m not too old to party. I love dance music, and I hope to be forever [...]
