It’s been a while since I’ve been to The Cott, a place which I’ve once described as being mostly “white and preppy”, with a mixture of metro guys and muscled ones, and Paris-lookalikes with their bleached blonde hair and big designer sunglasses. You can get an idea from the pictures on this post - “Cottesloe on a sunny day“.

I don’t know why but the self-preening types tend to gravitate upstairs, whilst the more casual types like myself sit outside in the beer garden. Anyhoo, it looks like the upstairs area was invaded on Australia Day last Saturday by a group of decidedly non-pretentious girls (all blondes, natch!) who started to dance up a storm without giving a shit who was watching or in this case, recording them.

Some people commented that they are embarassing, shameless and crass, but they are so damn funny, especially when one of the girls was challenged in a dance-off by a spectator. Heheh.

Since the clip was uploaded onto Youtube three days ago, two of the girls, Kate and Chelsea Doring have been interviewed by the local paper and have been heard on radio stations this morning.

[Kate] said her antics were “just fun” and she had not been drinking before the dance routine.

“I’m a bit like that and so are my friends. We don’t care what anyone thinks. I’m just a party animal.”

Kate said she would be partying this weekend but did not intend to repeat her video success.

“You only do that sort of thing once and that’s it,” she said.

“I’m not taking any of this seriously,” Kate said. “It’s just really funny.”

She said she had been annoyed by callers to radio stations who had tried to denigrate her clothing and imply she was a “dero” from Perth’s outer suburbs.

“Chelsea and I are from Fremantle. We are not deros*. We are not snobs. We are just girls out for a good time.”

So Aussie, so Perth. I love it. :)

* dero = Aussie slang for derelict, dregs of society, low-classed, white trash, bogans
