I’ve been summoned to serve as a juror and is required to show up at the District Court building in Perth city on the 23rd of this month. The summons said that it may last one to five days, and according to it, jury duty is done during business hours on weekdays, and I’m allowed to go home. Yay for that, ‘cos I’ve got Future Music Festival to go to that weekend.
This would be my first time ever being in a court room. It’s kinda fascinating but it also reminds me of group assignments during uni – there’s bound to be some slackers, and stubborn or annoying bastards in amongst the bunch.
That is of course, I pass through the first day of jury selection. Part of me think it’s gonna be exciting, and part of me think it’s gonna be boring (what if I nod off in the afternoon?). Part of me would rather be at work, and part of me would rather not be at work but not having to spend the day(s) in a court room either. Hah!
Oh well, whatever happens I’m sure to have some observations to share in and around the time of the case. I wonder if there will be a media gag. I will most likely not be able to blog about the case specifically but I can blog about the experience and the environment right? Too bad cameras are most definitely not allowed inside.

Wow, we don’t have the jury system here. Did you apply for it? It’ll be an interesting experience.
at the selection process just ask them if you can blog the proceedings, or even if you can twitter them, then show them your phone and bam you’ll be outa there quicker than you can say mooiness.com lol
I’ve done it once, but didn’t get chosen. None of us did that day, so we all went home.
blur ting: no, it was a random election from the electoral poll. If it’s a voluntary thing, there might not be enough variety in the people and numbers to do it, I think.
stu: hahaha that’s a good idea. Or not. Heh.
Fiona: no kidding?! how anti-climatic.
Cool! They’ve got rid of the juror system in Malaysia, which is a shame. I have no doubt you would be blogging about the experience – as an overall of course, and not how many people vote for guilty/not guilty..heehee.
Hope you get as killer case! Double entendre intended
I was so annoyed with mine, 4 days of traveling to the city via bus, waiting in an big ass room with about 200 people, getting selected, making it to the court house, sitting on the bench, meeting the judge, seeing the accused, sworn in, ready to rock and roll….all to be challenged and sent home on the last day. DAMN IT!
Actually mine was pretty rough as I found out later he got convicted for bashing his wife to the point of death, strangling her with a power cord to death and then turning himself in on the grounds of insanity. I would have thrown the book at him.
Although I did get out of the office for 4 days
. Hope yours is a good one, let us know how it turns out, if you can.
sourrain: hahah all I hope for is that if I get chosen, it’d be short and interesting.
BigZ: yeah, either way I will definitely blog about it.
