Most days I’m happy to have lunch at my desk because I get to instant-chat with my friends and browse the net. But lately, the workload and pressure has been affecting me greatly that I’m compelled to leave the place.
Going out of the office allows me to mentally split up the day into two by being somewhere different, and in a different mind set. The walking around also helps take my mind off of things. And it really works. Two separate chunks of a day are easier to handle than one long drawn out one.
I’d rather that the workload wasn’t so hellish at the moment but at least I’ve got a coping mechanism for it. The only thing that would make it better? If we were allowed some alcoholic drinks at work to take the edge off.

A change of environment from your desk to the outdoors can do wonders! Although I usually tend to reply personal emails and/or internet banking during my lunch break.
I find it can really help to leave your work environment for lunch even if it’s just for half an hour, just for a change of scenery. LIke you said, it can help break up the day and also help clear your mind and think about other things.
Alcohol at work? Be a good way to ease the stress but it could also lower productivity if everyone ended up getting pissed!
SK: yeah, getting away from the computer is a good thing.
girlstar7: well, you know a limit of one beer in the afternoon can be imposed.
Talking about beer . .
It was ANZAC day in Australia and work organised beer and BBQ for the staff. After the food and a nice cold beer (and it was Friday afternoon), productivity for the rest of Friday was gone!
Well that’s to be expected isn’t it?! Heheh.
