If you’ve reached for her
But never got her,
You’ve never had her in the first place,
And she doesn’t owe you anything.
If you have her
But she wants to leave,
Holding on to her will only tear away
What’s left between you.
If you’ve never had her or she’s left you
It was never meant to be.
She’s moved on
And so should you.
If you are lucky enough to come back to it,
Perhaps.
Until then, let go my friend
And move on.

Did you write this? Anyway, it rings so true.
Yup, otherwise I would have credited the author.
niiiiiiiiiiice one mooi!
permission to reproduce this on my blog – with credits given to you – Sir!
No problem – go ahead!
So true…I remember a dance track that came out some years ago now with the lyrics: if you want to leave, I won’t ask you to stay, I won’t stay in your way…I forget what the song was but it was good and the lyrics rung true! Sometimes you’ve just gotta let someone go and be free.
BTW your poem can also be replaced with masculine pronouns (can you tell I’m an ESL teacher? hehe)…he/him etc…cause this definitely works the other way around (I’m sure most girls have been there)!
Definitely – the scenario can be easily reversed. I googled the lyrics, is it “If Your Heart’s Not In It” by Westlife?
