China September 2010 – Beijing Museum, Temple of Heaven
We started our fourth and final day in Beijing visiting the Beijing Museum. It was fascinating but nothing can quite compare with seeing and being at the historical locations for real. There were a lot of cool dioramas and mock ups of what old Beijing looks like but none of them felt real to me.
I waltzed through it very quickly but my parents spent a bit more time looking at the artifacts, art works and antiques. After about 2 hours or so, we headed next to the Temple of Heaven – a complex of prayer building and structures, some Taoist, that the Emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties would visit annually to pray to Heaven for good harvest.
Near the centre is the Circular Mound Altar.
Once you get past that, you will see the Central Hall of Prayer for Good Harvest.
And once you past that, you see the Imperial Vault of Heaven.
Yeah, pretty awesome. Next up, more temples! Just two more to go – the Lama Temple and the Confucius Temple, and then we begin the Silk Road tour proper at the ancient city of Xian.
