Now that’s a female archetype that I wouldn’t kick out of bed.

However, don’t fret if you don’t fit the above descriptions. Mooi’s got a lot of love to give … hahaha!

Criterion:

  • Hair - black, brown, brunette, red, blonde. Any length or style as long as it looks good on you!
  • Body type - slim, plump, voluptuous
  • Race - any!
  • Height - tall, short, whatever! As long you want me!

ballantines-armin-dvd

My parents are away on holiday. My brother and cousins were out. My friends had other plans. So what’s a bored clubber to do being home alone on a Saturday night?

I grabbed a couple of Ballantine’s from the fridge, turn off the lights, turned up the sound and fired up an Armin van Burren DVD, “Armin Only: The Next Level“, on the big screen.

Result? Me imagining myself at a rave, jumping up a sweat and having a grand old time. The short clip (2:27) below will give you an idea of what I watched. If you like dance music, trance and going to raves you will want to buy the DVD. I salvaged my Saturday with it. ;)

And speaking of raves, next Friday would be Godskitchen Perth 2007. Woohoo!

DJ Sara - 8 years old
DJ Ryusei - 5 years old

Watching them scratch on the turntables is funny, cute, and super freaking AWESOME. Check out their toothy smiles at the beginning of this clip. See DJ Sara’s hands move and flick across the record and the cross-fader. See DJ Ryusei’s nods his head as his sister scratches. It’s the bomb yo!

Here’s an encore. DJ Sara pouts, DJ Ryusei bops.

DJ Sara is gonna be hot when she grows up, and DJ Ryusei is gonna pull in all the hot chicas. Damn it. I’m envious of little kids.

Check out their Youtube profile.

Traffic on Orchard Road in the rain

This morning I decided to start planning for my end of year holidays. I made up my mind not to go to Shanghai or Taiwan this trip because Mili reminded me that it would be cold. I forgot about that because I was thinking in Australian seasons. Besides, she said she might wanna go with me so maybe I will just wait for that.

I narrowed my choices down to Singapore and Sydney and both places have friends and family whose company that I enjoy and whom I want to see. I decided that the tie-breaker would be left up to two groups of friends whom I’ve known since high school, who are in Singapore and Sydney respectively. I’d go with whoever’s plans and enthusiasm level sounded the best.

So I proceeded to SMS and email these friends. The group in Singapore responded fairly quickly (I only heard from the Sydney group just now - boo!) and proceeded to psych me up to go. And they didn’t have to do much. One friend replied back with two sentences, one of which was:

Yay! Party! Woohoo!

And the other sealed the deal with an equally short email:

I’ve got women for you.

Heheh. I hope it’s not those kinds of women. I’m just cheap that way.

And that’s how you sell a holiday to me - so Singapore it is. Sydney will have to wait till next year, Easter maybe. It may sound boring that I seem to holiday in the same places all the time but to me, it’s the people who matter and not the place. :)

Empress Dowager Cixi
The mother of all Mother-in-Laws, the Empress Dowager Cixi who was so overbearing that she ruled China through two weak Emperors, the first her son, and the second her nephew. Imagine what their wives went through.

The nasty mother-in-law is a universal stereotype in all cultures. And recently I found out that my father’s mother is one too.

To understand the following story, you have to understand the dynamics of traditional Chinese families. And to make it less complicated, I’m assuming the case of a woman marrying into a family with only one son*. Typically the daughter-in-law would rank lower than the husband’s parents, the husband and the grandchildren, in particular the grandsons. It can be inferred from that that daughter-in-laws are merely there to produce children who will carry on the family name.

And to set the scenario, my father is his father’s eldest son, and my brother and I are the only grandsons with the family name. Going by traditional norms, my mother would be considered by my grandmother to be the lowest in importance in our family of four.

For the past 2 months that my grandmother has been staying with us, all of us have witnessed everything from mild insults to sarcasm. A couple of times, I even heard my grandmother say one thing to my mother and another to my father. Maybe she needs to see people fight for entertainment in her old age. The reasons that I can put it down to are spite and jealousy of the other woman in my dad’s life.

Even though my mother always had the suspicion that my grandmother never really liked her, we didn’t think too much of it because my grandmother never lived with us for any period of time, and my dad is not a pushover who listens to his mother all the time.

What I don’t get is that my grandmother would have probably went through the same when she married into the Ooi family, so why isn’t she more understanding? And her story is even more interesting. My grandfather was a middle child and his mother was the third wife - I don’t know how the dynamics worked in that one!* Think I need to go rent out “Raise the Red Lantern” to brush up on my knowledge.

And to put it all in even greater perspective, this is the same grandmother whose children are fighting over her will even before she’s dead. It’s a mess but karma perhaps?

* Chinese family politics and dynamics are endlessly fascinating, like one of those games or quizzes where you have to put things in their proper order. Most of what I’ve spoken about here are considered outdated and dysfunctional by today’s standards, even though it is still happening in varying degrees.

By now you should have seen or heard about Chris Crocker, the “Leave Britney Alone!” guy. The guy has a tearful breakdown in front of a camera, telling us to err … leave Britney Spears alone. Then he posts it onto Youtube. Natch. If you needed a reminder, here it is below (language warning):

Funny as that was, here’s Seth Green telling us to “Leave Chris Alone!” (language warning):

I laughed very very hard.

Guy sleeping at work

cell105 @ flickr

On most Mondays, I feel like the guy in the picture above. Which is why I always schedule for Mondays, tasks that are the most routine and simple. Mind-numbing though these tasks may be, they require the least amount of brain power.

Obviously customers and colleagues may still come to me for help but that’s not within my control. I do what I can in my little sphere of influence. What’s that famous Christian saying …?

“God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.”

- Reinhold Niebuhr

So how do you deal with your Mondays?
