These days I am …

  • content with my job, money, social life, friends, family and my dog,
  • happy because I’m content,
  • apathetic because I’m happy and content,
  • which makes me somewhat self-centred or at most, makes me care only for my immediate circle of friends and family.

That’s my current state of mind.

And because of past disappointments, I will myself into not hoping for too much of anything, or from anyone which means I’m cynical. I don’t expect people to be perfect so long as they don’t do me wrong. If they do do me wrong, then they’d probably not feature in my life anymore. Which makes me not very sentimental at all.

I’m so cynical and I don’t care what others think of me that it’s easy to be self-confident. Which makes it easy to not have to rely on material things to feel worthy, or to prop me up. I don’t eat or drink because of depression, though I do eat to be happy.

And I certainly don’t need another person to complete me, or to make me happy although that would be very nice. At least that’s what I keep telling myself anyway, when I’m not too busy feeling content, happy, apathetic, self-centred, cynical, unsentimental and confident. ;)

mom-wrapping-dumpling-1

A couple of weeks ago, mom made some Chinese rice dumplings. The ones that mom made were wrapped in bamboo leaves and have the following ingredients:

  • marinated glutinous rice which was first stir-fried a little
  • Chinese water chestnuts
  • fatty pork
  • Chinese sausage
  • Chinese mushroom
  • dried shrimp

They were wrapped and then dunked into boiling water to cook for a few hours.

The end result is this …

Here’s a clip of my mom wrapping one. She’s written down the recipe for me but the wrapping part is tricky and it’s good to have a visual guide. :)

Don't be a door mat!
R.B. Boyer @ flickr

I had an MSN conversation with a friend about how guys have to treat women nice to get them, but they also shouldn’t be too nice in the wooing process least they get used and taken for granted. The following were some points that I made. Bear in mind that they were typed out at the speed of thought and thus are a bit cynical, a bit sexist and a bit rude. Kinda like me really. Ho ho ho.

  • u dont have to be an arse, u just have to be surgical. moving on quickly is the key.

What I wanted to say here was that although you shouldn’t mistreat women or play mind games with them, you have to realise when to cut your losses and move on immediately. No lingering, and no being persistent and all that bullshit.

  • heheh. next time they cry, use our inate male logic and apply it to their irrational emotions. they get pisssy, u leave. then they’d call u the next day and apologise becoz in the light of day, they would realise that u were rite.

This was about how some women use tears and crying to manipulate men, and how some men are weak against it. When she cries, the man should make his point as logically as possible and then leave it at that. If that doesn’t work, then there’s no point arguing about it because she won’t be listening to what you have to say. If all else fails, you leave her where she is, even if she has to find her own way home. What?! Is that wrong? Don’t be such a schmuck, you’re not even her boyfriend! :P

  • heheh. best thing to do – take everything as superficial. remember the mantra, it’s all a lie until she touches your happy bits.

I’m not saying all women are like this but the fact is, there are a lot of women who enjoy flirting and would use it to tease the men who they know likes them. Surely, they know; they all do. So why torture the poor guy? As for the guy, there’s only one thing to do: everything she says or do is moot until she decides to have sex with you.

Though I repeat, you don’t have to be a bastard about it, but don’t just take her word for it. You are entitled to expect her actions to back up her words. If nothing happens beyond mere words, move on.

So to sum up, don’t be a charity and give away 100% of yourself for free. Heck, even charities aren’t that generous. Having said all of the above though, the other way to approach it is this: be nice (to a certain degree) but don’t expect anything in return. It’s the expectations that open you up to being used because you’d gladly accept any small scrappings of attentions or tokens of her affections in return.

outdoor-restaurant

I’ve finally reached the last of the photos from way back in January that I’ve wanted to post up. These were taken on the last evening of our short stopover in KL, coming from Guangzhou and heading back to Perth.

Dinner was at a typical outdoor restaurant in the middle of nowhere. A place where only locals would know. It was great – the food was fab and it wasn’t too crowded.

When it comes to food, our family doesn’t do things by halves.

We had six dishes and here are four of them. The first one is steamed fish.

This is stir-fried cockles in broth.

These deep-fried pieces of soft-shell crab were awesome.

And finally, stir-fried frog legs with spring onion and ginger. Looks and tastes like chicken. :)

So how come my blog postings have been reduced lately? Dating? Girlfriend? Too much partying? Wrong! It’s video games! Yeah I wish that my life was more interesting too. Hahah!

Anyways, “Ninja Blade” is the video game that I’ve been obsessed with for the past month or so, and I’ve been playing and replaying it on my days off and when I’m recovering from a hangover.

You are a super-ninja with big swords and … erm yeah, that sold me on the game.

And it looks like I’ll be similarly distracted in the upcoming months when the following games are released. First up is “Bayonetta” where you play a female witch with guns, magic powers and an awesome butt. Woohoo!

I’m quite excited about “Batman: Arkham Asylum”. The voice-actors from the original animated series will be voicing the game. This includes Kevin Conroy as Batman and Mark “Skywalker” Hamill as The Joker. If you’ve watched the cartoons, you’d know that their voices fit the characters perfectly especially Mark Hamill’s. His voice-acting is a real revelation.

Plus the gameplay looks sweet!

And then there’s “Bioshock 2″ later in the year. Squeee!

With this much video-gaming and partying, my mom had asked, “How you gonna meet a girl this way?” I dunno myself but I shall blog about it when I do. :P
