All hell broke loose at 6:54am on August the 16th in Richmond, Virgina when up to 10,000 ppl who had been queing since 1am the night before, try their luck at grabbing 1000 Apple iBooks that were being disposed for US$50 each by the Richmond International Raceway.

This reminded me of the McDonald’s Hello Kitty craze that swept through South-East Asia a few years back, and the annual Myer Stocktake Sales in Australia. Ppl would risk life and limb just to get a bargain. Something is wrong with their priorities. Don’t you think? 😉

Story first found on The Register. Full news report at the Richmond Times-Dispatch site.

    crazy shit.

If I were there, I would have thought – man, there’s no way there’d be an iBook left for me. I mean, if there were only about 1000 people, you can’t blame me for trying my luck. But bloody hell, a mob of 10k and people are still trying their luck? Crazy.

starry: I think if you were near the front or in the middle, you’d be extremely scared when all the ppl behind you started surging forward and there’s not much space in front. And pray that you do not trip and fall down because … the consequences would just be too horrible.
