WordPress 2.0.1 is slooooow

February 11, 2006 1:10 PM

Ok just as I was quickly enamoured by WordPress 2.0.1 previously when I first played with it, I was quickly dissapointed. Why? It is sooooo slooooooow.

Posting itself is fast and so is the admin interface. But submitting comments, regardless of whether you were logged in or not, is painfully slow. Let’s face it, commenting is a HUGE part of blogging and I don’t want visitors to be turned off by it being slow.

In comparison, I managed to install WordPress 1.5.2 on a hosting service and everything about that is quick. But it lacks the import functions. Shiieeeet.

Any of you out there using WordPress 2.0.1? If so, what have you done to correct this?

UPDATE 6:02PM
Installed it again on another machine, this one running Apache 1.3.34 instead of 2.0.55. And guess what? The slowness went away. Sheesh. I wonder why no one complained about this on the WordPress forums. Gonna post it there.

That’s interesting, coz I think you have the opposite problem I have. Posting is incredibly slow, even editing a post takes a long time to load. It’s not my Internet connection either, I’ve tried at school too (which can be generally faster than home) and posting and editing is still slow. I have Apache 1.3.34 too. I like WordPress 2.0.1, but the slowness in posting and editing comments is starting to annoy 🙁

Hmm that’s strange. So there’s no consistency with the problem? On my end, I’ve pretty much narrowed it down to the version of Apache being the culprit.

I’ve posted this on the WordPress support forum and there’s no replies there. It can’t be only us who are having these problems? 🙂
